GRAND FORKS, N.D. (2/01/20)---Concordia hit the road for the first time in 2020 and came away with a fourth-place finish at the UND Indoor Open.
Junior Josie Herrmann backed up her win in the 1000 meters in the season opener by claiming the only event win for Concordia at UND. She raced to a time of 2:17.48 in the 800 meters and won the event by almost a full second. Her finishing time is the fourth best in the MIAC season.
Herrmann's event win helped Concordia amass 72.50 points which was 22.50 points ahead of MSU Moorhead who finished in fifth place.
Herrmann also recorded a Top 3 finish in the mile. She clocked a 5:15.03 which is also a Top 10 MIAC mark this season.
The Cobber throw trio of Cayle Hovland, Allyson Kangas and Kelsey Rajewsky made a step forward from the opener in the shot put. All three improved on their season bests as they posted a 6-8-9 finish against competition from Division I, II and NAIA.
Hovland finished sixth with a throw of 42-08.25 while Kangas was eighth at 40-00.75 and Rejewsky was ninth at 39-02.25. All three of the marks are in the Top 10 of the MIAC this season. Hovland checks in with the No.2 throw while Kangas is seventh and Rajewsky is ninth.
Nicole Lilleberg continues to shine in her sophomore season. Lilleberg made the finals in the 60-meter hurdles and finished in sixth place with a time of 9.87. She qualified for the finals with a time of 9.74 and that time is in the Top 15 of the conference this year.
Lilleberg was also eighth in the triple jump. Her best distance of the day was 33-01.75 which is No.11 on the MIAC list.
Freshman Lauren Forness, sister to Cobber teammate Miriah and former Cobber Mikayla, bettered Lilleberg in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles. Forness clocked a 9.64 in the finals which earned her a fourth-place finish and is the 10th fastest in the MIAC this year.
Carly Fornshell and Kara Andersen recorded Top 20 MIAC times at UND. Fornshell finished fourth in the 800 meters at 2:26.36 and Andersen was fourth in the 3000 meters at 10:47.01.
UP NEXT: Concordia will continue their trek toward the MIAC Indoor Meet when they head across the Red River to participate in the NDSU Bison Open on Feb. 7-8.
