GRAND FORKS, N.D. (2/22/20)--- Sophomore Allyson Kangas led Concordia in the final meet of the indoor "regular season"as she was one of six Cobber athletes to post program Top 15 marks at the UND Tune-Up Meet in Grand Forks.
Kangas jumped into the Top 15 in both throw events and moved into the Top 7 in the MIAC this season in both implements on Saturday.
Kangas is now sixth in the weight throw and seventh in the shot put as the team heads for the conference indoor meet next weekend. Kangas recorded a distance of 50-00.75 in the weight throw which marks the first time in her career that she has surpassed the 50-foot mark. Her distance is also tied for the third farthest in school history.
Kangas wasn't done with just the weight throw. She also moved into the Top 7 of the MIAC in the shot put when she recorded a season-best 40-10.50. That mark is seventh farthest in the conference this season and No.14 on the school's all-time list.
It wouldn't be a Saturday in the winter without Josie Herrmann making a splash in some middle distance event. She was the only event winner for the Cobbers in Grand Forks as she raced to a 2:14.46 in the 800 meters and won the event by 2.58 seconds over NCAA scholarship athletes. Her time is the third fastest in school history and fastest in the MIAC this year. It is also the 12th fastest in Division III this year.
Herrmann was joined by senior teammate Miriah Forness on the school's all-time list in the event. Forness finished fifth in the meet with a time of 2:19.88 which is a personal best and the 11th fastest in program history.
Sprinter Zahra Banks continued her solid season. She put up Concordia all-time Top 7 marks in both the 60-meter dash and 200 meters. She clocked an 8.10 in the finals of the 60 meters which is tied for fifth fastest in school history and her time of 26.48 in the 200 meters is No.6 in program history.
Both of Banks' times are in the Top 11 of the MIAC this year. Her time in the 60 is the sixth fastest and her mark in the 200 meters is No.11 on the conference list.
The Cobbers also had a pair of athletes jump into the Top 10 in program history in the 60-meter hurdles. Both Nicole Lilleberg and Lauren Forness ran under 9.65 in UND. Lilleberg finished in 9.62 and Lauren Forness was right on her heels with a mark of 9.63. The times are No.7 and No.8 on the school's all-time list. Those times are also No.12 and No.13 on the MIAC list this year.
UP NEXT: Concordia will see how their season best marks hold up against other conference athletes when they participate in the MIAC Indoor Championship Meet on Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, Feb. 29 at St. John's.
