Wind Blowing Out = Runs, Homers & Hits In Split With SJU

The wind was blowing out and the hits and runs were plentiful at Bucky Burgau Field on Tuesday. Concordia and St. John’s combined for 36 runs, nine home runs and 41 hits in their doubleheader split. The Cobbers came away with a 9-6 win in Game 2, while the Johnnies earned a 14-7 victory in the opener.

The late innings were unkind to Concordia at Gustavus on Saturday. The Cobbers gave up six unanswered runs in the final three frames in Game 1 after the opener was tied 6-6 heading into the bottom of the fourth and then led 11-4 in the seventh inning of Game 2 before conceding eight straight runs and losing 12-11.

Concordia opened the 2024 season by dropping a pair of games to Marian (Wis.) to start their annual training trip in Florida. The Cobbers scored the first three runs of the day against the Panthers but then gave up 18 unanswered runs over the next 12 innings and lost 8-3 and 10-0.
