Christianson & Kjelstrom Earn CSC Academic Honors
Concordia juniors Jake Christianson (Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake HS) and Caiden Kjelstrom (Aitkin, Minn.) earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team honors.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (6/06/24)---Concordia juniors Jake Christianson (Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake HS) and Caiden Kjelstrom (Aitkin, Minn.) earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team honors.
The 2024 Academic All-District baseball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes baseball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
In order to be eligible for the accolade, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically and must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50. Position players must have competed in at least 90 percent of team games played or have started at least 66 percent of the total number of team games played. For pitchers, players must pitch 25-plus innings or appear in 17 games as a pitcher.
Christianson started 26 of the team's 35 games and hit .268 for the season. He had 82 at-bats during the year and came away with 22 hits and four doubles. Christianson, the team's starting second baseman until an injury sidelined him towards the end of April, only committed two errors in 106 chances. He also had a hand in turning 11 double plays on the year.
Christianson is a Healthcare Administration major with a minor in Accounting and has a 3.70 grade point average.
Kjelstrom was one of only three Cobbers to play in at least 34 of the 35 games during the season. He finished fourth on the team in hitting with a .290 average. Kjelstrom led the team in walks (19) and bunt hits (7) and was fourth on the team in total hits (29) and at-bats (100). The team's starting center fielder, Kjelstrom finished with a .973 fielding percentage in 73 chances and had three assists.
Kjelstrom carries a 3.69 GPA while majoring in Marketing with a minor in Data Analytics.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA governance structure.
