Davenport, Fla. – In a marathon 12-inning battle, Concordia came from behind to defeat St. Vincent 4-2, thanks to clutch hitting and timely baserunning.
St. Vincent struck first in the fifth inning when Dylan Schmude singled, scoring Traynor Janosko on a throw to third, giving the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. The Cobbers responded in the eighth with a key RBI single by Jake Gruebele, driving in Alex Anderson to tie the game. St. Vincent briefly regained the lead later in the inning as Isiah Petty's sacrifice fly scored Schmude, making it 2-1.
Concordia-Moorhead tied it up in the top of the ninth. An Anderson sacrifice bunt put Bryce Binek in scoring position, and Ryan Kloster's single plated Binek to make it 2-2.
The game remained deadlocked until the 12th inning when the Cobbers' offense came alive. Mason Henry singled and stole second, setting up Binek's clutch double to drive in Henry. Later in the inning, a sacrifice fly from Cael Olson brought Binek home, giving Concordia-Moorhead the 4-2 lead, which held to secure the win.
Binek led the Cobbers offensively, finishing 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Gruebele also went 2-for-5 with an RBI, while Kloster's ninth-inning RBI kept the Cobbers in contention. Aggressive baserunning played a big role, with Luke Knudsen, Jack Primus (3 steals), Mason Henry, and Alex Anderson all swiping bases.
On the mound, Ben Trutwin and Thad Lieser combined for seven strong innings, and Wyatt Mohr earned the win with five scoreless relief innings, striking out four and allowing just one run. Concordia-Moorhead's pitching and defense held St. Vincent to six hits despite a few late errors.
The Cobbers return to action Wednesday, March 4, against Bluffton at 12:00 PM.
