Multi-Run Innings Cost Cobbers At Augsburg
Concordia was done in by three multi-run innings in their twibill at Augsburg. The Cobbers gave up a 3-run second inning in the opener and fell 4-1 and allowed two runs in each of the third and eighth frames in Game 2 and lost 5-0.
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (4/19/26)---The road was once again unkind to the Cobbers as they dropped their second straight away doubleheader.
Concordia was done in by three multi-run innings in their twibill at Augsburg. The Cobbers gave up a 3-run second inning in the opener and fell 4-1 and allowed two runs in each of the third and eighth frames in Game 2 and lost 5-0.
The two defeats bring Concordia's overall record to 9-16 on the year. CC is 4-8 in conference play.
Game 1: Concordia 1, Augsburg 4
The Cobbers weren't able to get on the board until the seventh inning, were done in by the three runs that the Auggies put up in the second and dropped the 4-1 decision.
It was a tough second frame for CC as Augsburg scored all three runs on just one hit and were aided by a pair of Cobber miscues.
Concordia's best chance to score before the seventh, came in the fifth frame when Ben Shumansky and Jake Gruebele led off the inning with singles and had the bases loaded with two outs but couldn't come up with the clutch hit.
The Cobbers finally got on the board when Gruebele was beaned to start the inning and came around to score on a Luke Knudsen single to center field.
CC outhit Augsburg 5-3 in the opener with five different players recording a single hit in the game.
Brayden Wolfgram went the distance on the bump. He only allowed one earned run, three hits and struck out six.
Game 2: Concordia 0, Augsburg 5
Concordia couldn't string multiple hits together and was shutout for the first time in conference play.
The Cobbers best chance to score came in the fourth inning. Mason Henry connected on a 1-out single to center field and was thrown out at the plate on a 2-out single off the bat of Alex Anderson.
Anderson finished with the only multi-hit game of the day for Concordia. He went 2-for-4 in Game 2.
Grant Paffrath, Alex Claussen and Wyatt Mohr shared the pitching duties over the nine innings. Paffrath hurled the first 6.0 innings, allowed two runs and fanned six. Clauseen took the baton and pitched the seventh inning before giving way to Mohr who pitched the eighth.
Concordia will return home to host St. Mary's on Tuesday, Apr. 21 with the first game starting at noon.
