Cobbers Finish Off Home Season Against League-Leading Bethel
MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/28/26)---Concordia finished off the home portion of its schedule by dropping a pair of games to league-leading Bethel.
The first inning in both games proved to be costly for the Cobbers. CC gave up six runs in Game 1, rallied to get to within one but lost 8-6. The Royals followed the 6-run first in the opener with a 3-run first in Game 2 and went on to win 10-3.
Concordia is now 12-21 in all games and 6-12 in conference play. Bethel wins for the 12th time in the last 13 games and moves to 28-7 overall and stays atop the MIAC standings with a 16-2 record.
First-year outfielder Jack Primus led the Cobber offense on the day while Clayton Erickson, Cael Olson and J Riley Ohm put together scoreless outings on the bump for CC.
Primus was the only Cobber with a hit in both games. He finished the day by going 3-for-6 with three RBI.
Game 1: Bethel 8, Concordia 6
After the Cobbers fell behind 6-0 after a half inning, CC rallied to score three times in the bottom of the first and tacked on two more in the second to get to within one at 6-5. The Royals extended the lead to 8-5 in the fifth before Concordia added a single score in the sixth to finish off the score line.
Concordia's 3-run first was keyed by Primus' 2-out, 3-RBI double with the bases loaded. Tanner Nowacki started the 2-out rally with a single that pushed Brayden Wolfgram up to second base. Matt Contreras followed the single with a walk which set the stage for Primus' bases clearing 2-bagger.
The two runs in the second came courtesy of a Wolfgram double which plated Ben Shumansky and then a sacrifice fly off the bat of Luke Knudsen that scored Mason Henry.
Shumansky had the final RBI of the opener when his sacrifice fly scored Primus after Primus connected on his second double of the contest to start the frame.
Erickson made an early appearance out of the bullpen as he relieved starter Caleb Johnson in the first inning. Erickson proceeded to go 2.1 innings, didn't concede a run and only allowed one base knock.
Olson and Ohm finished off the game by combining to throw 2.0 scoreless innings.
Concordia had six hits in the first game. Primus was 2-for-3 and Wolfgram, Knudsen, Nowacki and Drew Dorsey all had single-hit contests.
Game 2: Concordia 3, Bethel 10
The Cobbers were held without a hit until the sixth inning of Game 2. CC had five base runners before Primus came through with a single in the sixth to break up the no-no.
Bethel was able to score three times in the first and added four more in the third to grab a 7-0 lead.
Concordia's three runs came in the seventh frame. Luke Van Erp posted the big hit of the inning when he doubled down the left-field line to score Brady Yourczek and Alex Everson.
Ryan Kloster added the final run for CC as he came home on a sacrifice fly from Alex Anderson.
Concordia used three pitchers in Game 2. Alex Claussen got the start and was relieved by Brett Schlangen and then Schlangen handed the ball to Aiden Johnson. Schlangen had the most successful stint of the second game. He went 4.1innings, allowed one run on four hits and struck out one.
The Cobbers will finish off the 2026 season when they play at St. Scholastica on Saturday, May 2 at 1 p.m.
