A Second CSC Academic All-American Honor For Thompson

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/28/25)---Concordia senior defensive lineman Collin Thompson (Thatcher, Ariz.) finished off his record-setting career by being named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American First Team for the second straight season.

 

Thompson becomes the first player in Cobber football history to receive multiple CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-American awards.

 

Thompson also becomes only the sixth overall Concordia student-athlete to earn multiple All-American honors.

 

The CSC Academic All-America program honors student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level in athletics and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CSC; a 2,000-plus member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.

 

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.50 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution. Athletically, the student-athlete must appear in 90 percent of his team's games or start in 66 percent of them. The Academic All-District and All-America teams are voted upon and selected by registered members of CSC (formerly the College Sports Information Directors of America).

 

Thompson finished his Cobber career as a 3-time MIAC All-Conference honoree, a D3football.com All-American and All-Region award winner as well as being named the MIAC Most Outstanding Lineman (Mike Stam Award) winner in 2023. 

 

On the field, Thompson broke the Cobber school records for tackles for a loss in a career and single season. He finished his career in maroon and gold with 39.0 tackles for a loss, 120.0 total tackles and 15.0 sacks.

 

Thompson is a graduate student this year and is pursuing his master's degree in management science. He has a 3.96 grade point average.

 

Eight honorees on the Academic All-America Division III football teams boast a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate work or graduate school. The 25-man first team has an average GPA of 3.84, with the entire 51-man team combining for a collective 3.82 GPA. 

Thirteen student-athletes are repeat selections on the Academic All-America® Division III football teams: B.J. Adamchik (North Central College); Alex Aitchison (Coe College); Robert Coury (Carnegie Mellon University); Thomas Coury (Carnegie Mellon University); Dawson Dietz (Washington & Jefferson College); Nate Farm (Bethel University); Tomás Kenary (Middlebury College); Jeske Maples (North Central College); Dylan Page (Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology); Thomas Perry (Middlebury College); Arsen Shtefan (Springfield College); Collin Thompson (Concordia-Moorhead); and Matt Wrather (John Carroll University).

The Division III Academic All-America program is financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist the College Sports Communicators with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Division III Academic AllAmerica® program.
