Concordia almost climbed out of a 32-point second-half hole against No.11-ranked St. Thomas but ran out of time on a furious late-game comeback.

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/15/14)—It's hard to dig out of a 32-point second-half hole against any team, it's even more difficult when you are facing the No.11-ranked team in the country. Concordia got behind nationally ranked St. Thomas by 32 points in the second half but then had time run out on a furious late-game comeback.
The Cobbers wound up outscoring the Tommies 41-32 in the second half but fell 81-67 on the strength of UST's first 25 minutes of play.
The loss hurts Concordia's playoff hopes but doesn't knock them out of the postseason race. CC is still one game behind the sixth, and final, conference playoff spot with two games remaining in the regular season. The Cobbers are now 11-12 overall and 7-11 in the MIAC. St. Thomas wins for the eighth straight game and moves to 20-3 in all games and 17-1 against league opponents.
The deciding factor in the game was the Tommies' ability to get to the basket and get open looks from close in. St. Thomas shot 67.9% (19-for-28) from the floor in the first half and then 59.1% (13-for-22) in the second period of play to close out the game with a 64.0% (32-for-50) shooting percentage.
The Cobbers paved their comeback trail by knocking down 3-pointers in the second half and raising their shooting percentage from 37.5% (9-for-24) in the first half to 58.6% (17-for-29) in the second stanza.
A pair of reserve players injected a spark into the CC offense in the second half. Brett Bergeson went 2-for-4 from outside the arc while big man Isaac Anderson was 4-for-7 from inside the paint and came away with a career-high nine points. He also recorded a team-high five rebounds.
Tom Fraase led Concordia in scoring with 10 points while Jordan Bolger matched Anderson's output with nine points and five boards.
The Cobbers will now hit the road and try to get closer to the postseason. CC will play at St. John's on Wednesday, Feb. 19 and then at Hamline on Saturday, Feb. 22.
