ST. PAUL, Minn. (1/10/15)—An old country song by Jerry Reed went, "when you're hot, you're hot and when you're not, you're not. " The Cobbers "were not" against No.5-ranked St. Thomas as they failed to make a 3-point field goal in either half, scored a season-low 38 points and lost 64-38.
Despite their icy outside shooting touch the Cobbers were still within striking distance throughout the first half and into the first six minutes of the second period. CC trailed by only 10 at the break at 26-16 and cut the deficit to six points at 28-22 before the Tommies exploded on a 30-10 run over the next 13 minutes.
The loss snaps a four-game win streak for Concordia and drops their overall record to 7-4. CC is now 3-3 in conference play and seventh place in the league standings. St. Thomas wins for the seventh straight game and is now 11-1 in all games and 6-1 in the MIAC.
Concordia finished the game by missing all seven shots from outside the arc. It's the first time since the third game of the 2011-12 season they haven't made at least one 3-point basket – a streak of 83 games. The seven 3-point attempts is also a season low for CC which usually relies on their ability to knock down the outside shot.
The Cobbers wound up shooting 30.2% (16-for-53) from the floor in the game. Both the 30.2% shooting percentage and 16 made field goals are season lows. The field goal percentage is also the lowest total for a single game since the end of the 2010-11 season.
Jordan Bolger continues to showcase his talents in 2014-15. The junior forward put up a double-double against the defending MIAC champion Tommies. Bolger had a team-high 11 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds. Bolger has now scored in double figures in all 11 games this year and has had 13 rebounds in three of the last four games. It was his fourth double-double of the season and he is second in the MIAC in rebounds per game.
Brady Syverson added six points and five rebounds for the Cobbers.
Concordia will look to get back to their winning ways when they play at Gustavus on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 7:45 p.m.
