Cobbers Run Into Ole Offensive Wall

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/19/15)—Concordia fell behind defending MIAC playoff champion St. Olaf by double digits midway through the first half, could never recover and lost 72-48. It's the first defeat at home in conference play for the Cobbers.
Concordia took a 6-4 lead four minutes into the first half and then tied the game at 10-10 before No.21-ranked St. Olaf went on a 12-0 run to seize control of the contest. CC wound up shooting 29.0% (9-for-31) from the field in the first half and trailed by 16 at the half. The Cobbers improved to 45.0% (11-for-24) from the floor in the second half but were never able to cut the lead to single digits.
The loss drops Concordia's overall record to 8-6 on the year. CC is now 4-5 in MIAC play. St. Olaf wins for the eighth straight game and is now 13-1 in all games and 8-1 in the conference. The Oles remain tied atop the league standing with only one loss.
The early cold shooting streak proved to be the difference in the game. While the Cobbers struggled to make baskets on consecutive trips down the court, the Oles shot 45.2% (14-for-31) from the floor in the opening half and finished the half by earning points on their final six possessions of the period.
Concordia wound up shooting 36.4% (20-for-55) from the field for the game. CC also shot 38.5% (5-for-13) from 3-point range and 37.5% (3-for-8) from the free throw line. St. Olaf finished the game with a 50.0% (28-for-56) shooting percentage from the floor and connected on 40.0% (4-for-10) of their tries from outside the arc. The Oles also went 12-for-16 frm the free throw line.

Brady Syverson led the Cobbers in scoring for the first time this season. He was 6-for-9 from the field and finished with 12 points to go along with six rebounds. Jordan Bolger had a team-high seven rebounds while Jordan Deutsch went 3-for-4 from the floor and added seven points.
Concordia will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 21 when they host Carleton at 7:45 p.m. The Cobbers and Knights are tied for seventh place in the league standings.
