A Glas Act!

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/18/17)---Concordia head coach Rich Glas received a standing ovation before his final game on the sidelines and then almost pulled off one more magical moment.

The Cobber battled regular-season co-champions until the final minutes of the second half but couldn't overtake the Tommies and lost 81-70.

Glas, who was coaching in his 1,021st – and final - college game, was honored before the game for his legendary 37-year as a head coach in college which culminated in nine seasons at Concordia. The crowd, which featured many of his former players and assistant coaches, nearly willed the Cobbers to a victory which would have earned CC a spot in the MIAC playoffs.

Concordia erased a 14-point lead late in the first half and then tied the game on the first possession of the second half only to see St. Thomas go on a seven-point run to take a 49-42 lead. Once again Concordia, led by the boisterous crowd, inched its way back into the game and tied the score at 58-58 with 9:14 remaining in regulation.

There would be no more answers for the Cobbers after the Tommies went on a 12-2 run over the next 3-minutes of play.

The loss finishes Concordia's record at 12-13 for the year. The Cobbers were 9-11 in league play and missed the postseason by a single game. St. Thomas clinches a share of the MIAC regular-season title and will be the No.1 seed for the upcoming playoffs. The Tommies are now 19-6 overall and 15-5 in the MIAC.

Concordia finished the game by shooting 49.2% (30-for-61) from the floor and 30.0% (3-for-10) from outside the arc. CC went 7-for-10 from the free throw line. St. Thomas was consistent from inside the arc and beyond the 3-point arc. The Tommies shot 44.1% (30-for-68) from the floor and 45.8% (11-for-24) from long range.

Concordia was able to score from around the basket all game long as they held a 34-18 edge in points in the paint but the 33-9 advantage for the Tommies in shots from outside the arc proved to be the difference.

Concordia had three players finish in double figures. Senior Dylan Alderman finished with a team-high 21 points to go along with a team-high six rebounds. Fellow senior Austin Nelson added 13 points and made all three of Concordia's long-range shots. Kevin Wolfe finished with 15 points and two rebounds.

AND THAT'S A WRAP: Rich Glas' final numbers are impressive no matter how you look at them. He won 608 games during his 37 seasons, and 1,024 games, as head coach. For Concordia he won 118 games and is the fourth winningest coach in program history in only nine seasons on the sideline. To say he will be missed by the basketball community is a HUGE understatement.

AND THAT'S A WRAP 2: Senior Dylan Alderman led Concordia in scoring with a 14.9 points per game average. That average is a career high and he finished his time in maroon and gold with a 11.2 points per game average and shot 54.5% from the floor and grabbed 190 rebounds.

AND THAT'S A WRAP 3: Senior Zach Kinny had career highs in points per game, assists and rebounds this season. He averaged 10.0 points per game and led the team in rebounds (5.2 rpg) and assists (135). He finished his career as a 45.2% shooter from the floor and had 179 helpers.   

AND THAT'S A WRAP (2)4: Senior Austin Nelson was second on the team in scoring with a 14.1 points per game average, That total is also a career high. He finished his career with an 8.1 ppg average and was a career 44.4% shooter from the field. He collected 232 rebounds and had 99 assists.
