Concordia made six fewer field goals and three fewer shots from outside the arc in a 70-55 loss to Augsburg.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/03/18)---Concordia never led in their conference game against Augsburg. The Cobbers got to within eight points of the Auggies midway through the second half but a 19-6 run over a 7-minute span buried Concordia's comeback chances and led to a 70-55 loss.
The teams had very similar numbers on the stat sheet but it was Augsburg's shooting percentage and ability to create chances at the end of shot clocks that proved to be the difference.
Concordia (5-15/3-12 MIAC) shot 38.2% (21-for-55) from the field for the game compared to 48.2% (27-for-56) for Augsburg. The Auggies also made three more shots from outside the arc.
The Cobbers had a trio of players finish with more than 10 points. Freshman point guard Bryden Urie led Concordia with 15 points. He went 5-for-9 from the floor and 3-for-4 from outside the arc. Collin Larson and Jacob Pazdernik had 11 points each. Larson had a team-high eight rebounds while Pazdernik added five boards and sank three 3-pointers.
Besides the difference in made field goals, the biggest edge came from points off of turnovers. Augsburg (16-5/11-5 MIAC) had four fewer turnovers but held a 21-10 advantage in points off of turnovers as they were able to force their miscues closer to midcourt and then get the ball to the basket after the turnover.
WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will hit the midpoint of their three-game home stand when they host Gustavus on Monday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. The Gusties are 10-11 overall and 8-8 in conference play. Gustavus is two games out of the sixth, and final, playoff spot.
