Drought Down The Stretch
Concordia went 2-for-16 from the field in the final 7:30 of the second half and lost 72-56 at St. Scholastica.
STORY LINE: Concordia led for all but 1:05 of the first half, held a 52-44 lead with 7:30 left in the second half but was outscored 28-4 down the stretch and lost 72-56 at St. Scholastica. The Saints made 7 of their final 10 shots, including five straight 3-pointers in a span of 3:42, to come away with the victory.
RECORDS: The Cobbers fall for the second straight game and are now 1-3 on the season. All four games have been played on the road. St. Scholastica earns its first win of the season and is now 1-3 for the year. The Saints are 1-0 at home.
DOWN THE STRETCH STATS: Concordia went 2-for-16 in the decisive final 7:30 of the game. That included a stretch where they missed 12 straight field goal attempts. The Cobbers' ice-cold stretch coupled with St. Scholastica shooting 70.0% led to the 28-4 run.
DOUBLE DOUBLE DAVIS: Lost in the late-game drama was the career night from Cobber senior Jordan Davis. Davis posted career high numbers in points and rebounds and earned his first collegiate double-double. Davis went 8-for-15 (53.3%) from the floor and finished with 19 points. He also grabbed 13 boards and added a block for good measure. His previous career high in points was 18 which came last year against St. Mary's.
DRIVER EIGHT: Concordia junior John Reiten collected a season-high eight boards and also scored eight points.
FREE THROW FOLLY: For the fourth straight game this season the Cobbers were on the short end of the free throw totals. Concordia shot a season-high 91.7% from the foul line but only took 11 free throws. St. Scholastica attempted 26 foul shots and made 21 (80.8%). In the past two games Concordia has attempted half as many free throws as their opponents. CC is 21-for-27 in the last two games while Minn.-Crookston and St. Scholastica have combined to attempt 54 foul shots and have made 47 (87.0%). For the season the Cobbers have attempted 44 free throws as compared to 105 for their opponents.
LONG DISTANCE DROUGHT: Concordia went 3-for-21 (14.3%) from 3-point range against the Saints. That is five fewer 3-pointers than any game this season. The Cobbers shot 1-for-10 from outside the arc in the second half.
NOT BOARD: Concordia outrebounded St. Scholastica 42-40 for the game. The 42 rebounds are the second most this season. CC has now grabbed more rebounds than their opponent in three of the four games this season.
UP NEXT: Concordia will now turn its attention to the MIAC. The Cobbers will continue with their 7-game road trip to start the season when they play at Hamline on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 3 p.m. The Pipers are 2-2 on the season and were picked to finish eighth in the preseason coaches' poll.
