Second-Half Success
Concordia outscored Carleton 36-20 in the second half, erased a 9-point halftime deficit, and beat the Knights 61-54.
STORY LINE: Concordia outscored Carleton 36-20 in the second half, erased a 9-point halftime deficit, and beat the Knights 61-54. The Cobber defense held Carleton to 28.6% (6-for-21) in the final 20 minutes of play and won for the second time in three games.
RECORDS: Concordia has now won three of its last five games and is 6-11 in all games. The Cobbers are 5-7 in the MIAC and tied for sixth place in the league standings. The five conference wins is one more than CC had in all of last season. Carleton falls for the third time in the last four games and is now 6-11 in all games and 4-8 in the MIAC.
SECOND-HALF SUCCESS: The Cobbers trailed by nine at the break but then scored the first five points of the second period and went on a 10-3 run to get to within two points at 37-35 at the 14:47 mark. Concordia would stay within five points before taking their first lead of the second half when Jordan Davis connected on a baseline jumper with 7:30 to play to give CC a 46-45 lead. The Cobbers would close out the game by outscoring the Knights 15-4 in the final five minutes of regulation.
Concordia shot 50.0% (11-for-22) from the floor and went 12-for-16 (75.0%) from the free throw line in the decisive second period. The CC defense limited Carleton to just six made field goals and six free throws in the final 20 minutes of play.
LOCAL FLAVOR: Fargo Davies product Ty Setness had his best game in maroon and gold as he went 3-for-4 from the floor and 6-for-7 from the free throw line to finish with a career-high 12 points. He also hauled down a career-high eight rebounds.
SECOND-HALF URIE: Sophomore point guard Bryden Urie finished with a team-high 18 points – 14 of which came in the second half. He also had a team-high nine rebounds with four in the second period of play. Urie has scored at least 15 points in six games this season.
STAT STUFF: Concordia finished the game by shooting 47.7% (21-for-44) from the floor and 30.8% from outside the arc. CC also made 65.2% (15-for-23) of their free throws. Carleton shot 39.2% (20-for-51) from the field, 27.8% (5-for-18) from 3-point range and 52.9% (9-for-17) from the foul stripe. The Cobbers held a 36-29 edge in rebounding.
UP NEXT: Concordia will hit the road for a single game on Wednesday, Jan. 23. The Cobbers will take on No.7-ranked St. Thomas at 7:45 p.m. The Tommies lead the MIAC with an 11-0 record and are 15-1 overall.
