Ice-cold starts in the first and second halves of Concordia’s game at No.12-ranked St. John’s sent the Cobbers to a 66-41 defeat.

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (12/04/19)---Ice-cold starts in the first and second halves of Concordia's game at No.12-ranked St. John's sent the Cobbers to a 66-41 defeat.
The Cobbers went 2-for-13 in the first 11 minutes of play of the first half, fell behind 12-4 and trailed 29-17 at the break. Concordia was then outscored 16-0 at the start of the second period which sealed their fate in the loss. The Cobbers were 0-for-11 in the first 6:30 of play in the final period.
Concordia is now 2-4 in all games. St. John's improves to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the MIAC.
The Cobbers only had one player score more than six points as they finished the game by shooting 26.8% (15-for-56) from the floor and 29.4% (5-for-17) from 3-point range. The Johnnies shot 47.3% (26-for-55) from the field but just 22.7% (5-for-22) from outside the arc.
Points in the pain and points off of turnovers proved to be the biggest statistical advantage in the game. SJU held a 34-20 edge around the basket and a 16-1 margin in turning CC miscues into points.
Senior Tommy Schyma led Concordia with 14 points as he went 6-for-14 from the floor and 2-for-3 from long range. Schyma also collected a team-high five rebounds.
Ian Schafer added six points while Bryden Urie, Jacob Fredrickson and Ty Setness all had five points each. Fredrickson also added four rebounds.
UP NEXT: Concordia will stay on the road for their next conference game. The Cobbers will play at St. Mary's on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. The Cardinals are 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the MIAC.
