MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/11/19)---Concordia went ice cold from the outside in the second half, couldn't contain the Carleton inside game and lost 78-55 to the Knights in the final home game of the 2019.
The Cobbers shot just 11.1% (1-for-9) from outside the arc in the final 20 minutes of play and were outscored 30-8 in points in the paint as Carleton extended its 5-point halftime lead.
Concordia is now 2-6 n all games and continues to look for its first MIAC win as they move to 0-4 in conference play. Carleton ups its record to 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the MIAC.
The Cobbers held a 5-point lead with 8:03 left in the first half after Jacob Fredrickson finished off an "and 1" to push the score to 25-20. Carleton would then go on an 11-0 run to grab a 31-25 lead.
The Knights would take a 37-32 lead into the break and then extend the lead to 20 points in the first 14 minutes of the second half as the Cobbers went 4-for-14 (28.5%) from the floor and 0-for-3 from 3-point range. During that time Carleton was able to get the ball inside and scored 18 of their first 25 points in the half from around the basket.
Concordia wound up shooting 37.9% (22-for-58) from the floor and 35.3% (6-for-17) from long range for the game. The Knights used their strong inside presence to shoot 54.4% (31-for-57) from the floor and 35.0% (7-for-20) from 3-point range.
Carleton finished the game with a 42-20 advantage in points in the paint and a 33-24 margin in rebounding.
Tommy Schyma and Jackson Jangula were the only Cobber player sin double figures in scoring. Schyma went 3-for-6 from outside the arc and finished with 13 points and Jangula was 4-for-8 from the floor and added 10.
Schyma also had a team-high seven rebounds and two assists.
Point guard Bryden Urie recorded a team-high five assists.
UP NEXT: Concordia will finish off the 2019 portion of its schedule when they play at Gustavus on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Nov. 26 but was postponed due to winter weather. The Gusties are 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the MIAC.
