Massive 2nd-Half Comeback Falls Just Short In Northfield

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (1/07/26)---Concordia staged a massive second-half comeback in its first MIAC game of 2026 but it came up one point short in Northfield as the Cobbers fell 74-73 to Carleton.
Concordia (9-4, 1-3 MIAC) trailed by as many as 20 points in the second half but used a 27-8 run to tie the game at 62-62 with 4:23 left in regulation.
The Cobbers eventually took a 2-point lead when Jackson Loge tipped in a missed shot from Peyton Belka with :06 seconds remaining but the Knights answered with a 3-point field goal from Matt Drake with 2.5 ticks left on the clock.
CC wasn't able to advance the ball up the court on the subsequent inbounds play and fell by the lone point.
It was a tale of two halves between the two teams as both squads put up 45 points in a half.
Carleton (8-6, 4-1 MIAC) shot 55.2% (16-for-29) in the opening period and took a 45-28 lead at the break. Concordia responded by shooting 51.7% (15-for-20) in the second frame and outscored the Knights 45-29.
Concordia outrebounds the Knights 32-29 in the game and held a 30-28 edge in points in the paint. CC also forced three more turnovers in the contest and used that to post a 20-12 advantage in points in the paint.
The shooting totals for both teams were nearly identical for the full 40 minutes with the Cobbers making one more field goal while Carleton came away with two more 3-pointers and one more made free throw.
Jacob Cook continued his tear through the 2025-26 schedule. He came away with 24 points and added game-highs in rebounds (13) and assists (5).
Cook has now posted back-to-back-to-back 20-point games and retook the scoring lead in the MIAC. He is averaging 21.4 points per game and has scored at least 20 points in eight of the 12 games he has played this season.
Loge came away with another double-double. The reigning MIAC Defensive Player of the Week grabbed 10 boards and scored 18 points. He has now posted a league high six double-doubles for the season.
Concordia will loo to continue the momentum they gained in the second half in Northfield when they play at St. Mary's on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 3 p.m.
