WINONA, Minn. (1/10/26) –-- Led by senior Jackson Loge, Concordia built a double-digit halftime lead and never looked back as the Cobbers earned a convincing 76–58 road victory over St. Mary's in MIAC men's basketball action.
St. Mary's opened the scoring with an early three-pointer, but Concordia quickly settled in and answered with strong interior play. Loge sparked the Cobbers early, battling for multiple offensive rebounds and converting at the free-throw line to tie the game at 8–8 just over three minutes in. Concordia took its first lead moments later when Jacob Cook finished a layup following a steal, igniting a run that put the Cobbers in front for good.
Peyton Belka knocked down a jumper and later added a layup to help Concordia build a 16–10 advantage at the 13-minute mark. Saint Mary's briefly cut into the lead behind a pair of three-pointers from Reid Weckwerth, but the Cobbers answered each time. Cole Holzer and Payton Schell provided timely scoring, while Loge and Cook controlled the glass on both ends of the floor.
Schell shined in the closing minutes of the first half, scoring on a layup, a three-pointer, and converting all three of his free-throw attempts. Loge added a free throw to cap the run as Concordia pushed its lead to 37–21. Saint Mary's closed the half with a late surge, scoring nine points over the final stretch to cut the deficit to 41–30 at the break.
The Cobbers came out of the locker room with the same intensity. Justin Courneya buried back-to-back three-pointers in the opening minutes of the second half, extending the lead to 49–32 and forcing Saint Mary's to play catch-up. Each time the Cardinals found a basket, Concordia responded at the other end.
Courneya connected on another three midway through the half to give Concordia a 58–44 advantage. Saint Mary's answered with back-to-back jump shots to trim the deficit to 10, but the Cobbers responded once again. Layups from Loge, Max Musland, and Cook fueled a key run that pushed the lead back to 64–48.
Concordia put the game away in the final two minutes as Loge and Holzer scored on consecutive possessions. Nathan Baack capped the scoring with a jumper before Saint Mary's hit a late three to close out the 76–58 Concordia win.
Loge led the Cobbers with 26 points and 16 rebounds for a double-double. Schell added 14 points, while Cook finished with 13 rebounds. Belka recorded a team-high four assists.
With the win, Concordia improves to 10–4 overall and 2–3 in MIAC play. The Cobbers return to action on January 14 when they host Gustavus for a 7:45 p.m. tip-off.
