Head Coach Tyler Bormann

Tyler Bormann was hired in April 2020 as the head men’s basketball coach at Concordia College, becoming the 12th head coach in the history of the program. Returning to his alma mater, Bormann earned a master’s degree in Education from Augustana University (SD) in 2008 following his graduation from Concordia in 2006. 

Bormann’s coaching career began while he was still a student at Concordia, serving as the junior varsity coach for D-G-F High School. After graduation, he continued at the collegiate level as a graduate assistant at Augustana University before being hired as the lead assistant coach at Lakeland University in Wisconsin. In 2011, Bormann returned to the area when hired as the top assistant at the University of Jamestown.  

In 2012, Bormann transitioned into high school coaching, taking over as head coach at Breckenridge High School in Minnesota. His tenure was highlighted by leading the Cowboys to their first Minnesota State High School Tournament appearance in 36 years, and in 2015, he was named Section 8AA Coach of the Year. From there, he accepted the head coaching position at Moorhead High School in 2016, where he guided the Spuds to unprecedented success, including back-to-back 20-win seasons in 2018–19 and 2019–20—the first in school history. 

Bormann returned to Concordia in 2020 to lead the men’s basketball program. Since taking over, Bormann has revitalized the Cobber program leading to consistent, year-over-year improvement highlighted by back-to-back MIAC playoff berths in 2023-24 and 2024-25. 

He and his wife, Cheryl (Concordia ’05), reside in Moorhead with their two sons, Graeme and Bennett, and their daughter, Marit.
