12-Shot Improvement On Day 2 At SJU
Concordia improved by 12 shots from their opening round and finished in eighth place at the St. John’s Fall Invitational.
SARTELL, Minn. (9/22/19)---Concordia improved by 12 shots from their opening round and finished in eighth place at the St. John's Fall Invitational.
The Cobbers finished with a 2-day total of 614 (313-301) which was only 10 shots shy of the Top 6 at the meet. The team score is the second lowest in the past seasons of playing at the tournament which is held at Greystone GC and Blackberry Ridge GC.
Junior Mason Opheim was the poster athlete for the Cobbers' improvement on Day 2. He opened with an 80 on Saturday and then carded a collegiate-best 71 on Sunday to finish with a 151 and come home in a tie for 25th place. His 71 on Day 2 was the low round of the tournament for CC and the fourth lowest by any CC golfer this year.
Fellow junior Tyler Bossert had his second straight stellar performance. Like Opheim, he also posted a better score in the second round. Bossert started with a 78 and then improved by four shots with a 74 to shoot a 152 and finish in a tie for 34th place.
Gage Stromme and Blake Kahlbaugh were separated by only one shot as the team's No.3 and No.4 golfers. Stromme shot a total of 155 (77-78) and Kahlbaugh had a 156 (78-78). Both golfers finished in the Top 50 of the meet.
