Cobbers Cap Regular Season With 6th-Place Finish
Concordia finished off the “regular season” portion of its fall schedule by posting a team score of 316 and finished sixth at the Twin Cities Classic.
WAYZATA, Minn. (9/27/21)---Concordia finished off the "regular season" portion of its fall schedule by posting a team score of 316 and finished sixth at the Twin Cities Classic.
The Cobbers had a 3-day total of 915 (295-304-316) which was only six shots out of a Top 3 finish. As a team, Concordia led the tournament in birdies as they recorded 38 over the three day.
Senior Mason Opheim once again led the Cobbers in the individual standings. Opheim rebounded from a second-round score of 78 and carded an even-par 72 on Monday at the Wayzata CC. He was 2-under at the turn after birdies on No.2 and No.8 but then bogeyed 11 and 16 to post the even-par score.
Opheim finished with a 3-day total of 219 (69-78-72) which was good for second place in the final individual standings. The second-place finish is his best of the year. He finished the Twin Cities Classic by being tied for first on Par 3 holes and was tied for second on Par 5's.
Opheim has led Concordia in two of the four events this fall, and has posted a trio of Top 10 finishes.
Sophomore Sam Henke was the only other Cobber to break 80 on the third day of the meet. He came home with a 78 and finished the tournament in 26th place with a total of 231 (77-76-78). It is the second straight meet he has been in the Top 3 of the CC team. Last weekend he led Concordia at the St. John's Invite.
Ryan Jenson started the tournament in the Top 20 with an opening round score of 73. He then carded a 76 on Sunday and finished with an 82 on Monday to tie with Henke for 26th place at 231.
Mason Plante and Justin Lamp were the final members of the Cobber squad for the weekend. Both players ended the three days with a total of 237. Plante, who won the Bemidji State Invite earlier in the year, opened with identical scores of 76 on Saturday and Sunday but then fell to an 85 on Monday.
Lamp was one behind Plante entering the final round after firing a 77 on Day 1 and a 76 on Day. On Monday, he came home in 8.
Concordia also had a pair of individuals at the meet. Seniors Tyler Bossert and Nate Longtin both posted totals of 235 for the meet.
UP NEXT: The Cobbers will gear up for the MIAC Championship Meet this weekend. CC will join the other conference teams at Bunker Hills GC in Coon Rapids for three rounds from Oct. 2-4. Both Opheim and Henke earned All-MIAC honors at the conference meet that was held in the spring.
