Engel Shines In First Tournament As A Cobber

HAM LAKE, Minn. (9/01/24)---It didn't take sophomore transfer Ryan Engel very long to acclimate his game to MIAC competition. Engel used an opening-round score of even-par 72 to finish in a tie for third place in the season-opening Augsburg Invitational held at Majestic Oaks.
Engel finished the 2-day tournament with a total of 148 after shooting a 148 on Sunday. Engel came to Concordia after playing his first college season at Bemidji State where he posted an average of 78.8 over six rounds of competition.
Engel's solid two days of play helped Concordia finish in ninth place in the final team standings. The Cobbers opened with a team score of 314 on Saturday and then fell to a 326 on Sunday.
Super senior Justin Lamp was the team's No.2 finisher. He carded a 75 on Day 1 and then posted a 78 on Sunday to finish at 153 and post a Top 15 finish. Lamp's best stretch of holes came at the end of Round 1 where he was 2-under for the final six holes.
Jack Hanson and Colon Westra posted identical 2-day totals of 168 to post the third-best individual scores for CC. Hanson went out with an 81 and then came back with an 87. Westra, who was playing as an individual, fired an 85 on Saturday and then recorded an 83 on Sunday. He was one of only two CC golfers who improved on their score from Day 1 to Day 2.
Freshman Mitchell Dewey carded a 172 (87-86), while Tommy Disch was right behind with a 173 (87-86) and Jay Wanzek completed the Cobber crew on opening weekend with a 180 (88-92).
Concordia will head northeast to compete in the Bemidji State Invitational on Sept. 9-10.
