EDINA, Minn. (10/07/24)---A pair of sophomores led Concordia to a fourth-place finish at the 3-day MIAC Championship Meet held at Braemar GC in Edina.
Jack Hanson and Ryan Engel both recorded Top 10 finishes to earn MIAC All-Conference honors as the Cobbers came through with their sixth consecutive Top 5 team finish at the conference meet.
It is the first time since 2021 that the Cobbers have had multiple Top 10 finishers at the MIAC Meet.
Concordia finished with a team score of 899, which is the second consecutive season they have posted a total of 899. Last year the Cobbers finished third with the 899 total.
Concordia opened the 2024 tournament with a 297, then carded a 304 on Sunday and finished with a 298 on Monday. It is only the third time in program history that CC has recorded two scores under 300.
Hanson was the top Cobber at the MIAC Meet. He shot an even-par 72 on Day 1 and followed that with scores of 74 and 77. His total of 223 was good for a tie for sixth place in the final individual standings. His Top 10 finish earned him MIAC All-Conference honors.
The T6 finish was an improvement of 19 places from his freshman season at the MIAC Meet in 2023. He also bettered his 3-round total from last year by nine shots.
Engel also came away with All-Conference honors in his first year as a Cobber. Engel saved his best round for Day 3 when he shot a 1-under 71. It was the best score by a Concordia golfer at the meet and one of only nine rounds under par from the entire field.
Engel shot a 75 on Saturday and posted a 78 on Day 2 to post a total of 224. That score put him in a tie for ninth place in the final standings.
The Cobbers also had two other golfers finish in the Top 20 of the championship meet. Freshman Mitchell Dewey and senior Justin Lamp recorded identical 3-round totals of 228 to finish in a tie for 19th place.
It's the first time since 2021 that Concordia has placed four golfers inside the Top 20 of the final individual standings.
Dewey had bookend scores of 77 and came through with his best round on Sunday when he fired a 74.
Lamp's best score came on Monday when he shot a 74. He opened with a 76 and then carded a 78 on Day 2 to get to his total of 228. The T19 finish and total of 228 are both career bests for Lamp at the conference meet.
Andrew Swanson was the final member of the Cobber MIAC Championship Meet team. He had a final total of 231 and tied for 23rd place. He started with his best score – a 2-over 74. Swanson shot an 81 on Day 2 and came home with a 76 in the final round.
