MONTICELLO, Minn. (4/27/25)---Ryan Engel tied a school record and Concordia saved its best for last in the spring season as they fired a team total of 294 on Day 2 of the St. John's Spring Invite and finished in a tie for seventh place in the final team standings.
The Day 2 team score of 294 is the lowest of the spring for the Cobbers and the second lowest of the 2024-25 season. CC fired a 290 in the first round of the St. John's Fall Invite on Sept, 14.
Concordia's team total on Sunday was 29 shots ahead of their score on Saturday, when they came home with a 323 and were tied for 11th place after Day 1 of the meet.
Like the team, Engel saved his best for last. He etched his name in the Concordia record book by firing a 65 on Sunday, which tied the school record for lowest score in a single round. His 65 on Day 2 ties Matt Kulla, who also had a 65 in the opening tournament of the 2018 season.
Engel was once again the low Cobber at the tournament. He led Concordia in all three meets this spring and captured medalist honors at the Neb. Wesleyan Howl at the Hill on Apr. 14-15.

Engel opened the St. John's tournament with a 79 on Saturday but then carded his school-record tying round of 65 on Sunday. That score was the lowest by any golfer at the SJU meet. His 65 included seven birdies, five of which came on the front side where he made the turn in 30. Engel's 65 is the lowest score by a Cobber all season long add
Engel's 2-day total of 1-over-par 144 was good for a tie for sixth place in the individual standings.

After Engel, the Cobbers had four players finish within two shots of one another.
Jay Wanzek, who played the tournament as an individual, had the second-lowest score of the two days for CC. He opened with an 80 and then closed with a 77. His total of 157 was good for a tie for 44th place.
Mitchell Dewey and Jack Hanson both posted final totals of 158. Dewey recorded the second-lowest single round score of the weekend by a Cobber as he had a 74 on Sunday. Dewey started the invite with an 84. Hanson opened with an 83 and finished with a 75.
Tommy Disch was the fourth member of the quartet. He went 79-80 to end the tournament at 159.
The other story of the weekend was senior Damien Silus, who was playing in his first-ever college golf meet. Silus, who was an All-MIAC punter and kicker for the Concordia football team, started slowly with a 90 but then had the biggest improvement of any Cobber golfer at the meet on Day 2 when he posted a 76.
