Engel Wins Second Straight Title as Cobbers Dominate Comet Invitational
The Concordia men’s golf team turned in one of their most dominant performances of the fall season at the 2025 Comets Invitational, led by Ryan Engel’s second consecutive individual title and a deep, consistent lineup that helped the Cobbers post an impressive team total of 589 at Hawley Golf & Country Club.
HAWLEY, Minn. (10/9/25) — The Concordia men's golf team continued its strong fall campaign with a commanding performance at the 2025 Comets Invitational, claiming the team title with an impressive team total of 599 at Hawley Golf & Country Club. The Cobbers finished well ahead of runner-up Jamestown's "B" squad, who posted a 611.
Leading the way for Concordia was Ryan Engel, who earned individual medalist honors for the second straight tournament, narrowly edging out Satchel Tickel of Mayville State by a single stroke. Engel showcased remarkable consistency over both rounds, carding a 71 in the first round and a 70 in the second, finishing at 2-under-par 140. His steady play allowed him to hold off a competitive field and secure back-to-back victories.
Concordia's depth was on full display with Carter Midthune, who finished third overall at 143. Midthune opened with a 73 in round one before rebounding with a 70 in round two to climb the leaderboard. Jay Wanzek added a 147, putting three Cobbers in the Top 10. Matthew Cone and Damien Silus went 168 and 169, helping Concordia post one of their best team totals of the season.
With a team total of 589 and Engel leading the charge, Concordia demonstrated both depth and consistency, securing another decisive team victory to close out their fall season.
