Cobbers Score But Fall 3-1 At Carleton

The lone score wasn’t enough as Concordia conceded a pair of first-half goals and one late in the second half and lost 3-1.

The Cobbers put a stop to their scoreless streak when Gannon Brooks converted a penalty kick in the second half. The lone score wasn't enough as Concordia conceded a pair of first-half goals and one late in the second half and lost 3-1.
The loss is the seventh straight for the Cobbers, who are now 1-7-0/0-2-0 MIAC on the season. The Knights are now 4-1-3 in all games and 1-1-0 in conference play.
The game was decided in a span of 1:59 at the back end of the first half when Carleton scored two goals to grab a 2-0 lead.
The teams played the majority of the opening 35 minutes of play in between the penalty areas. The Knights were able to counter on the Cobbers for the opening tally and put home a breakaway attempt at 38:32.
Carleton doubled the lead only 119 seconds late after a combination of passes led to a shot at the top of the penalty area which found the lower corner of the net.
Concordia's breakthrough goal came in the 64th minute of play after senior Seth Kotzbacher was hauled down in the penalty area after a cross came in from 35 yards out of goal.
Brooks was able to score on the penalty kick to get the Cobbers within one goal at 2-1 with 26:39 left in regulation.
Carleton added the insurance goal at 80:04 when a turnover just outside the CC penalty area turned into an open shot on goal from 15 yards out.
The Knights held an 18-3 edge in total shots and a 8-2 margin in shots on goal.
Brooks led CC with two total shots and both shots on frame.
Cobber goalie Jensen Waltz made five saves in his seventh start of the year.
Concordia will stay on the road for its next MIAC match-up when they play at Macalester on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 3:30 p.m.
