Cobbers Show Fight in 2-2 Road Draw
Concordia men’s soccer showed its fight on Saturday, battling through adversity and finding a last-minute equalizer to earn a 2-2 draw on the road at Wisconsin–Stout.
MENOMONIE, Wis. (9/6/25) – Concordia men's soccer left it all on the field Saturday, digging deep to grab a 2-2 draw at Wisconsin–Stout. The Cobbers struck first, played the final 30 minutes a man down, and still found a way to equalize in the dying moments to bring home a result.
The match had intensity from the opening whistle. Stout came out firing with a few early chances, but senior goalkeeper Jack Solheid was up for the task and set the tone with a big save in the 12th minute. That stop gave the Cobbers a chance to settle in, and soon the offense found its rhythm. In the 23rd minute, Dylan Sipe threaded a perfect pass through the Blue Devil defense, and sophomore Liam Weis made no mistake, tucking away his first goal of the season to put Concordia in front.
The lead didn't last long, though. Stout answered in the 30th minute, as Marwan Kaddah set up Roberto Perez for the equalizer, and the two sides went into halftime locked at 1-1 after a physical opening frame.
The second half carried the same edge, but everything changed in the 61st minute when Weis was shown a red card, forcing Concordia to finish the match with 10 men. Playing short-handed, the Cobbers leaned on Solheid, who came up with another huge stop before Stout finally broke through in the 66th minute to take a 2-1 lead.
Instead of folding, Concordia responded with grit. The Cobbers kept pushing forward, generating a flurry of chances that forced Stout's goalkeeper to make multiple saves. The game nearly slipped away when the Blue Devils were awarded a penalty kick in the 75th minute, but Solheid came up with his biggest moment of the afternoon, diving to his right to deny the shot and keep the Cobbers alive. The save gave Concordia a jolt of belief heading into the final stretch.
That belief paid off in the final seconds. With the clock winding down, Sipe, who had already set up the opening goal, stepped up once more. The senior found space inside the box and smashed home the equalizer in the 90th minute, sparking a celebration as the Cobbers stole a hard-earned road point with the last kick of the game.
Solheid finished with five saves, including the penalty stop that changed the match. Sipe led the attack with a goal and an assist, while Weis tallied his first of the year before his second-half ejection.
Concordia (0-1-2) won't have much time to rest. The Cobbers are back in action Sunday night at Wisconsin–River Falls, with kickoff set for 7:00 PM.
