Cobbers Drop Road Match At North Dakota

Concordia returned from sunny California and headed due north as they dropped a 7-0 decision against DI opponent University of North Dakota.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (3/06/15)—Concordia returned from sunny California and headed due north as they squared off against NCAA Division I opponent University of North Dakota. The Cobbers were unable to take a match off of North Dakota and lost 7-0.

The team dual only had seven matches instead of the usual nine because the match was played using Division I scoring rules.

The loss drops Concordia's overall record to 0-5 on the year while North Dakota moves to 4-3 on the year.

The doubles matches also had different scoring for the Division I procedure. Doubles matches were only played to six games rather than the eight played at the Division III level.

Concordia dropped the No.1 and No.2 doubles matches 6-1 and fell at No.3 doubles 6-0.

The closest singles match of the night came at No.4 singles where sophomore Jesse Schneeberger lost 7-5, 6-2. Schneeberger battled back-and-forth in the opening set but then lost momentum after losing in extra games in the opener.

Both the No.1 and No.2 singles matches were also tight for the first set. Isaac Toivonen lost 6-3, 6-1 at No.1 singles and then Zach Zitur dropped an identical 6-3, 6-1 score line at No.2 singles.

The Cobbers will head back to conference play next weekend when they play a pair of road matches. Concordia will play at St. Mary's on Saturday, Mar. 14 at 2:30 p.m. and then head to Northfield to take on St. Olaf on Sunday, Mar. 15 at 9 a.m.
