Florida Momentum Carries Over To Winona
Concordia used the experience they gained on its spring training trip to roll over St. Mary’s 7-2 in the Cobbers’ first match back in Minnesota. Concordia used the momentum gained from a 6-1 win over Adrian in their final match in Florida to come away with all three doubles wins against the Cardinals and a quartet of single victories.
WINONA, Minn. (3/15/25)---Concordia used the experience they gained on its spring training trip to roll over St. Mary's 7-2 in the Cobbers' first match back in Minnesota.
Concordia used the momentum gained from a 6-1 win over Adrian in their final match in Florida to come away with all three doubles wins against the Cardinals and a quartet of single victories.
The victory is the first in conference play this year for the Cobbers, who are now 3-8 overall and 1-5 in the MIAC. St. Mary's takes a loss in its first conference match of the year. SMU is 7-9 in all matches.
All three Cobbers' doubles squads posted solid wins on Saturday. The No.1 tandem of Ryoga Yano and Isaac Maddock posted an 8-4 victory to get the win train rolling.
Logan Sandberg and Kai Kringlie recorded the most lopsided doubles win with an 8-2 victory at No.2 doubles, and then Kai Pierce and Daniel Skrade gave CC a 3-0 lead heading into singles play with an 8-4 win at No.3 doubles.
Yano, Maddock, Sandberg and Pierce all doubled up on their wins in doubles by posting victories at the top of the lineup in singles play.
Yano had to recover from a 6-3 loss in the first set at No.1 singles. He cruised to a 6-0 win in the second set and then outlasted his opponent with a 10-8 win in the super-set tie-breaker.
Maddock came away with the quickest singles win of the day. He posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No.2 singles and got to cheer on the rest of the Cobbers' singles players for the remainder of the match.
Sandberg claimed a straight set 7-5, 6-3 win at No.3 singles, and Pierce finished off the singles victories with a 5-7, 6-3, 10-7 win at No.4 singles.
Concordia will have a two-week break before returning to play when they host Wis.-Superior on Saturday, Mar. 29 at 1 p.m. at Courts Plus in Fargo.
