Win Streak Comes To An End In St. Paul

Concordia’s 6-match win streak came to an end as the Cobbers were edged 4-3 by Northwestern. Concordia entered the match against the Eagles having won all five of their contests since returning from Florida, but were undone by the doubles point and lost by a single point in the team score.

Concordia entered the match against the Eagles having won all five of their contests since returning from Florida, but were undone by the doubles point and lost by a single point in the team score.

Since the match was a non-conference contest, the three doubles bouts only counted as one point towards the final team score. CC lost two of the three doubles matches to enter singles play down 1-0. The Cobbers have owned singles competition recently, going 18-6 in their last four matches, but could only come up with a split against Northwestern and lost the overall team match.

Logan Sandberg and Hunter Rice picked up the lone doubles win. They posted an 8-5 decision at No.2 doubles.

The singles wins belonged to the Top 3 spots in the lineup. Isaac Maddock won in straight sets but needed to go to the tie-breaker in set No.2 to record a 6-3, 7-6 (5) victory. Sandberg won 6-4, 6-1 at No.2 doubles and Kai Pierce put up a 6-4, 6-3 win at No.3 singles.

The Cobbers lost a pair of singles matches in the super-set. Rice fell 1-6, 6-3, 10-4 at No.4 singles, and senior Séan Martin lost the most dramatic match of the day, falling 13-11 in the super-set.

Concordia will finish off the 2025 season when they play at Augustana (S.D.) on Friday, Apr. 18 at 10 a.m.
