Season-Best Marks A'Plenty In Northfield
Jackson Schepp, Gabe Wright, Josh Murrey and Ben Vickstrom led a group of Concordia season-best marks at the Carleton Relays.
NORTHFIELD, Minn. (4/18/15)—Jackson Schepp, Gabe Wright, Josh Murrey and Ben Vickstrom led Concordia at the Carleton Relays in Northfield on Saturday. The quartet posted season-best marks in at the highly competitive meet.
Schepp and Wright finished in the top 7 in the high jump while Murrey claimed a fourth-place finish in his very first javelin competition of the year and was also ninth in the pole vault.
Schepp and Wright both cleared 6-06 in the high jump. Schepp was fifth in the final standings because of fewer misses at lower heights. Wright placed seventh. The mark of 6-06 is a season-best for both athletes who are now tied for second in the current honor roll list in the MIAC. Their finishing height also pushes them into the top 40 in all of Division III.
Schepp was also eighth in the triple jump with a season-best distance of 41-09.75. That mark vaults him into the top 10 of the triple jump as well as being in the top 10 of the high jump.
Murrey was the biggest surprise of the day as he came out of nowhere to place fourth in the javelin. His throw of 165-08 is a career best and places him into the No.6 spot in the conference. Murrey beat out teammate Cole Young who had won the first two javelin competitions of the 2015 outdoor season. Young had a toss of 162-03 at the Carleton Relays and finished eighth.
Murrey also competed in the pole vault and cleared 13-08.25 to finish in ninth place. That height is a season high and ninth best in the MIAC this year.
Freshman Dominic Neameyer was fourth member of the Cobbers to post a top 8 finish in a field event. He recorded a distance of 20-11.25 and placed fifth. That mark is also a season-best and puts him into the No.11 spot in the MIAC.
Vickstrom once again led the track contingent as he came away with top 7 finishes in both the 100 and 200 meters. Both events featured over 40 athletes which made Vickstrom's finishes even more impressive.
Vickstrom had season-best times in both events. He clocked an 11.13 in the 100 meters and then crossed the finish line in 22.68 in the 200 meters. He placed fourth in the 100 meters and his finishing time is fifth fastest in the MIAC this year. His time in the 200 meters also puts him in the top 10 of the conference this year.
Senior Tim Peterson and sophomore Joe Hendrickson posted season-best times in hurdle events. Peterson ran a 17.19 in the 100-meter hurdles and then clocked a 59.89 in the 400-meter hurdles. His time in the 400-meter hurdles places him in the top 20 of the conference. Hendrickson placed 14th in the 110-meter hurdles with a mark of 16.77. That time is also No.16 in the conference this year.
Concordia will now host the annual Cobber Twilight Meet on Tuesday, Apr. 21 at 3 p.m.
