An Excellent Eight At The Ron Masanz Invite
Concordia had eight top 5 finishes at the Ron Masanz Invite at MSU Moorhead in their final competition before the MIAC Championship.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/02/15)—Concordia had eight top 5 finishes at the Ron Masanz Invite at MSU Moorhead in their final competition before the MIAC Championship.
The Cobbers had a trio of top 5 finishes in track events and put up a quintet of top 5 finishes in the field events.
Tim Peterson, Chris Cunningham, and Jeff Fiebelkorn had the top 5 finishes in running events.
Peterson was third in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Peterson has been consistently improving in the event throughout the season and on Saturday he raced to his top time of the year. Peterson clocked a 10:22.10 which beat his previous season best by over 15 seconds. His time also pushes him into the top 25 of the conference.
Cunningham crossed the line in 23.16 in the 200 meters and placed fifth while Fiebelkorn recorded another sub-one minute time in the 400-meter hurdles. Fiebelkorn raced to a 59.92 and placed fifth.
The top 5 finishes in the field events came from Brandon Zylstra, Nick Anderson, Josh Murrey and Theo Betting.
Zysltra, competing in only his second outdoor event of the season, claimed third-place finishes in both the high jump and long jump. His top height in the high jump was 6-08.25 and he recorded a distance of 21-06 in the long jump. Both marks are slightly below his season bests which he posted on Tuesday at the Cobber Twilight. He currently leads the MIAC in the high jump and is fifth in the long jump.
Anderson was fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 40-07. That distance is a season best and pushes him into the top 15 of the conference which should qualify him for the MIAC Meet.
Murrey was fourth in the pole vault. Like Anderson, he also posted a season-best mark and is in the top 15 of the MIAC. Murrey cleared 13-09.75 which was good for fourth place and 1.50 inches better than his previous season best.
Betting had a career-best height in the high jump. He cleared 6-04.25 and was just behind Zylstra in fourth place. Betting's mark pushes him into the top 6 of the conference and gives CC five athletes in the top 7 of the event.
Concordia will head to St. Paul to compete in the MIAC Championship Meet on Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9 at Macalester College.
