Schepp Has Top 10 Finish At NCAA Meet
Jackson Schepp finished his first-ever NCAA National Meet by posting three straight lifetime best marks in the heptathlon.
NAPERVILLE, Ill. (3/11/17)--- Jackson Schepp's first NCAA National Meet didn't end with an All-American honor but his gutty performance in the heptathlon earned him a 10th-place finish and momentum heading into the outdoor season.
Schepp ended his seven-event performance with a trio of lifetime best marks. He had personal best marks in every event on Day 2 as he PR'd in the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1000 meters.
Schepp started his first-ever national meet on Friday with the 60-meter dash. He posted the slowest time among the 15 competitors but then Schepp started to steadily climb up the standings.
Schepp started his ascent in the next event when he posted a distance of 20-08.50 in the long jump. The 655 points gained in the event would push him up the standings ladder.
Schepp then put up another lifetime best mark in the shot put as he recorded a distance of 36-11.50 on his second attempt. The mark was the seventh best among the 15 athletes and earned him 562 points.
Schepp finished off the first day by clearing 6-04.00 in the high jump which was the second best in the event and earned him 740 points which was the third most of the seven events for the Cobber senior. His high jump mark pushed him into eighth place after the first day of competition.
Schepp then started Day 2 by racing to a personal best time of 8.96 which put 755 points into his heptathlon total – the second highest total of any of the seven events.
Perhaps Schepp's biggest personal moment at the meet came when put up a lifetime best height of 12-09.50 in the pole vault. His 590 points for the event moved him into 11th place with an outside chance of getting to the Top 8 and earning All-American honors.
Schepp put up a personal best time of 2:46.65 which was seventh fastest and earned him his only 800-plus point total of the heptathlon. Despite his gritty performance in the 1000 meters he could only move up to 10th in the final standings but was only 69 points out of eighth place and an All-American finish.
