Vaulting Into A Beautiful Day At NDSU

Concordia had a pair of athletes post Top 5 MIAC marks at the Lyle Hokanson Classic at NDSU.

FARGO, N.D. (4/22/17)--- Junior Eli Beachy was inches away from adding the outdoor school record to his resume as he was one of two Cobbers to post MIAC Top 5 marks at the Lyle Hokanson Classic hosted by NDSU.

Beachy cleared 14-11.00 to finish second at the meet that featured athletes from NCAA Divison I, II and III schools. He then had the officials set the bar at 15-05.00 which would have been only .50 of an inch off the school record of 15-05.50 set by Erik Olson in 2013.

Beachy's finishing height of 14-11.00 is a season best and the fourth best in the MIAC this season. It is also the fourth best mark in school history.

Sophomore David Supinski was the other Concordia athlete to record a conference Top 5 mark at the meet. Supinski sped to a time of 49.34 in the 400 meters and finished sixth in the race. His time is a career best and the fourth fastest time in the MIAC this spring. It is also the fastest time run by a Cobber athlete in the 400 meters since the 2008 season. Supinski now moves up to the No.3 spot on the school's all-time list.

The school record in the 400 meters is 48.53 set by Dave Swanberg in 1984.     

Concordia had two other track athletes post Top 10 finishes at the meet. Senior Matthew Lillehaugen rallied from a slow start and finished strong to record a time of 4:01.67 in the 1500 meters. His time was good for a fourth-place finish in a race that had Division I runners from NDSU claiming the 1-2-3 spots.

Lillehaugen's time is a mere .09 of a second off his season best which is in the Top 10 of the MIAC.

Willie Julkes III continued to excel in the hurdles in his freshman season. Julkes won the  60-meter hurdles at the MIAC Indoor Meet and has been running well ever since.

Julkes earned his Top 10 finish on Saturday in the 110-meter hurdles. He ran a 15.79 and finished in 10th place. His time is a season best and the fifth fastest in the conference this year.
