Isahak Breaks 42-Year-Old 10K Record
Munir Isahak broke the 42-year-old record in the 10K. He ran a 30:13.44 at the UW-La Crosse Phil Esten Challenge which broke the old record set by John Mutschelknaus in 1980 by 39-seconds.
LA CROSSE, Wis. (4/21/22)---Senior Munir Isahak continues to make running distances look easy. And he continues to break apart the Concordia record book.
Isahak's latest record-breaking feat came at the Wis.-La Crosse Phil Esten 10K Challenge where he broke the 42-year-old school record in the 10,000 meters.
Isahak clocked a 30:13.4 at the premiere DIII 10K event in the Midwest held at Wis.-La Crosse. Isahak's finishing time was 39-seconds faster than the previous record of 30:52.4 set by Concordia Hall of Famer John Mutschelknaus back in 1980.
Iasahak's time was good for fifth place among the 65 invited student-athletes.
Isahak now holds the Concordia record in the mile, 3000 meters and 5K indoors and the 10K outdoors.
Isahak could now set his sights on Mutschelknaus' other outdoor record – the 5000 meters, as well as the 21-year-old record in the 3000 meters.
Junior Leo Smith also competed in the meet. He clocked a personal best time of 31:37.04 which is the fourth fastest in school history. It was also good for a Top 25 finish in the final individual standings in La Crosse.
UP NEXT: Isahak and Smith will join the rest of their teammates in Northfield, when they compete at the Carleton Relays on Saturday, Apr. 23.
