COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (2/28/25)---Sophomore Joey Molstre posted a career-best total on his way to a 7th-place finish at the MIAC heptathlon.
Molstre finished the seven events with a total of 4,346 points, which was only 34 shy of a Top 6 finish. Molstre's total is the sixth most in program history.
Molstre's total was almost 1,000 points ahead of his qualifying score of 3,495 points, which he scored at the NDSU Bison Open. His MIAC total is also 519 more than he scored at last year's conference heptathlon.
Fellow sophomore Josh Peterson was the only other Cobber athlete to qualify for the conference heptathlon. He finished in 14th place with a total of 3,629 points in his first conference indoor multi-event.
Molstre scored over 700 points in the three running events in the competition. His top mark came in the 60-meter dash where he ran a career-best time of 7.37 and scored 755 points.
Molstre also came through with PRs in the long jump and 1000 meters. He had a distance of 20-01.75 in the long jump and his time of 2:54.82 in the 1000 meters marked the first time he broke the 3-minute mark for that distance.
Peterson's total of 3,629 points bettered his previous career-best total of 3,275 by 354 points.
Peterson's top scoring event was also the 60-meter dash. He crossed the line in 7.57, which was a career-best mark by .10 of a second. Peterson also had a PR in the long jump.
Molstre will have little time to enjoy his career-best mark in the heptathlon as he is mysteriously scheduled to run in the very first event in the overall MIAC Championship Meet.
