In the end he came through with a time of 4:14.01 which gave him a third-place finish, All-MIAC honors in the event and six valuable team points.
The other Top 10 finishes on Day 1 for CC were turned in by Logan Clark and Trevor Tiongson. Clark recorded a season-best time of 8.75 in the 60-meter hurdles and missed qualifying for the finals in the event by .15 of a second. His prelim time earned him ninth place in the event.
