COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (4/17/25)---Move over Hall of Famer and 3-time NCAA Champ Aaron Banks, there's a new shot put sheriff in town and his name is Cooper Folkestad.
On Thursday, Folkestad broke the unbreakable.
Folkestad became the new Concordia school record holder in the shot put when he unleashed a throw of 60-03.00 on his second attempt at the St. John's Spring Invite to become the first Cobber to eclipse the 60-foot mark in the event.
His distance bettered Bank's school mark, a record that many believed would never be broken, of 58-11.50 by over a foot. His winning distance in the event is the best in NCAA Division III, would be No.3 in DII this year and in the Top 40 of Division I.
Folkestad's unthinkable mark in the shot put was one of his three Top 5 finishes at the meet. Folkestad also placed second in the discus with a mark of 158-07 and was fourth in the hammer throw at 163-03. It is the first time all season that he has competed in all three events.
Concordia finished off the SJU Spring Invite by posting 12 Top 3 finishes.
The other event wins besides Folkestad's record in the shot put came in the 110-meter hurdles, where Logan Clark clocked a 15.78 and in the 4x100-meter relay, where the quartet of Ethan Lebrija, Tommy Schreiner, Jordan Petron and Nolan Morical ran a 42.63.
The time posted by the 4x100-meter relay team is the second fastest in school history.
Schreiner also accounted for a pair of other Top 3 finishes at the meet. He was second in the 100-meter dash as 11.05 and third in the 200 meters with a time of 22.31. Schreiner also competed in the long jump and came up with a distance of 23-06, which equals his best mark from last year.
Concordia had four other athletes record second-place finishes at the meet. Brayden Carlson was second in the 400 meters with a time of 50.85, Ryan Richardson posted a time of 55.87 in the 400-meter hurdles, and Noah Bloch was second in the 1500 at 4:35.21.
The lone runner-up finish in the field events was turned in by Peyton Johnsrud, who cleared a height of 6-02.75 in the high jump.
