Brady Goss won the 1500 meters with a school-record time on Day 1 at the MIAC Championship Meet. Goss ran a 3:49.78, which earned the Cobbers 10 team points and helped them into fourth place after Day 1 at the conference meet.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (5/09/25)---Sophomore Brady Goss continues his attack on the Cobber record book on the first day of the MIAC Championship Meet at Macalester.
Goss added the outdoor 1500 school record to his resume on Friday as he won the event in a time of 3:49.78. Goss' time bested the previous school record held by current assistant coach Munir Isahak, who clocked a 3:51.29 in 2022.
Goss also helped Concordia finish in fourth place after Day 1 at the conference meet. Goss earned the Cobbers 10 team points for his event win in the 1500 meters. Concordia finished Friday with 37.5 points, which is 1.5 points clear of Gustavus for fifth place and 11.5 points shy of Bethel for third place.
Goss's time in the 1500 meters was not only a school record, but also the 16th fastest in Division III this season which gives him a solid chance in earning a spot at the NCAA National Meet in the event.
Goss also broke the school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase this season and is currently ranked No.1 in the MIAC this season in the event and No.5 in DIII.
The majority of Concordia's team points on Friday came from field athletes, as most of the track events competed in the prelim stage.
Senior Cooper Folkestad started his conference meet by claiming All-Conference honors in the discus. He finished third with a distance of 157-05.
Also putting up All-Conference performances were first-year athlete Tommy Schreiner and senior Peyton Johnsrud. Schreiner was second in the long jump with a mark of 23-04.75 and Johnsrud placed third in the high jump by clearing a height of 6-03.50.
Schreiner was also busy on the track on Day 1. He qualified for the finals in both the 100-meter dash and 200 meters. He ran a 10.89 in the 100 meters, which was only .02 of a second off his season best, and he crossed the line in 21.84 in the 200 meters. His time in the 200 is a season best.
Throwers Blake Houska and Sam Dioszeghy added to the Cobber team point total. Both athletes earned All-Conference Honorable Mention honors for placing 4th, 5th or 6th in an event. Houska was fifth in the hammer throw at 163-10 and Dioszeghy was sixth in the discus at 145-01.
Ryan Richardson was the other Cobber track athlete to get through the prelims and qualify for the finals. He posted a career-best time of 55.43 in the 400-meter hurdles, which was the fourth fastest time in the prelims out of the 25 competitors.
