FARGO, N.D. (4/13/26)---It was another record-setting meet for the Cobbers at the NDSU Spring Classic in their first full-team competition in the month of April.
One record was inevitable, and the other is a weekly occurrence. Tyler Evans continued his outstanding sophomore season as he added the outdoor school record in the pole vault to his indoor program mark, while Cooper Folkestad did….well…Cooper Folkestad things in obliterating his own school mark in the shot put.
Evans erased the 2013 record set by Erik Olson in the pole vault when he cleared 15-05.75 in the pole vault. His height won the event and bettered Olson's own school mark of 15-05-.50. Evans' mark is also No.2 in the MIAC this year and in the Top 40 of Divison III.
Folkestad continues to push his school records further out of reach. He came into the meet at NDSU with a career-best of 61-01.25 in the shot put and pushed that bar over two feet father when he unleashed a toss of 63-02.25 on his sixth, and final, attempt of the meet.
You probably know that his new school record is also the best mark in all of Division III, but what you don't know is that his distance would be No.11 in NCAA Division I, No.2 in Division II and the third farthest in the history of Division III.
Besides the school record set by Evans and Folkestad, Concordia got an outdoor breakout performance by junior Tyler Goss, who recorded the fastest time in the MIAC this season in the 3K steeplechase. Competing in his first steeplechase race of the season, Goss clocked a 9:25.49 which won the event by over 15 seconds and is currently in the Top 35 of Division III.
Elsewhere on the track side, senior Trevor Tiongson placed fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 51.02 and also the winning 4x400 relay team. Tiongson was joined by Ryan Richardson, Brady Andrews, and Michael Crowder and posted a season-best time of 3:23.67. That mark is No.4 in the MIAC this year.
Ethan Lebrija led the sprint corps with a sixth-place finish in the 100 meters. He crossed the line in 11.02. He was also eighth in the 200 meters with a season-best time of 22.16 – the fifth fastest in the conference this year.
Multi-event athlete Joey Molste came up with a MIAC Top 10 performance in the 110-meter hurdles. He raced to a season-best time of 16.10 which is No.9 in the MIAC.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Nolan Morical, Lebrija, Crowder and Nicholas Hasbargen also recorded a season-best time. They came through with a mark of 42.43 which is No.2 in the conference in 2026.
Chris Verdier posted MIAC Top 10 marks in both the long jump (21-03.25) and triple jump (43-06.00) at NDSU.
Other than Folkestad, the gang of Concordia throwers was led by 3-sport athlete Sam Dioszeghy who posted a distance of 48-11.75 and sits in the No.5 spot in the MIAC.
Next up for Concordia is the SJU Invitational which will be held at some point in the future. Fans can check their local listings for the date and time of this event which will be run on the newly-installed banked track at SJU.
