Crowder Finds His Groove In Final Event of MIAC Decathlon Day 1
It took first-year Cobber athlete Michael Crowder four events to get his mojo going in his first collegiate conference decathlon. Crowder made a huge jump up the leaderboard after the 400 meters and is in fifth place halfway through the MIAC decathlon championship.
NORTHFIELD, Minn. (4/30/26)---It took first-year Cobber athlete Michael Crowder four events to get his mojo going in his first collegiate conference decathlon.
Crowder made a huge jump up the leaderboard after the 400 meters and is in fifth place halfway through the MIAC decathlon championship with 3,112 points.
Crowder posted the fastest time of any of the 16 competitors in the field in the 400 meters – the final event on Day 1. Crowder clocked a 50.97 which earned him 770 points and won the individual event by 1.10 seconds.
Crowder's 770-point 400 meters was his second highest scoring event of the afternoon and one of two events where he scored more than 700 points.
His top point total on Thursday came in the opening event where he crossed the line in 11.25 seconds in the 100-meter dash and scored 806 points.
Crowder, who finished 11th at the MIAC heptathlon in February, scored over 500 points in two other events. He posted a total of 540 points in the long jump (18-11.75) and 528 in the high jump with a personal-best height of 5-06.00.
Junior Josh Peterson is in 16th place after the first five events with 2,224 points. His top-scoring event of the day came in the 100-meter dash. He recorded a time of 12.34 and scored 586 points. He also crossed the 500-point total in the shot put with a distance of 34-02.00.
Crowder and Peterson will cap off the 2026 MIAC decathlon on Friday, May1 starting at 10:30 a.m. with the 110-meter hurdles.
