The Wait Is Worth It For Goss As He Qualifies For NCAA Finals
Concordia junior Tyler Goss needed to wait almost 10 minutes to find out if he was going to qualify for the finals in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship Meet. In the end, Goss earned the last qualifying spot for the finals after running a 9:07.92 in the first heat of the prelims.
LA CROSSE, Wis. (5/21/26)---Concordia junior Tyler Goss (Devils Lake, N.D.) needed to wait almost 10 minutes to find out if he was going to qualify for the finals in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship Meet.
In the end, Goss earned the last qualifying spot for the finals after running a 9:07.92 in the first heat of the prelims. Goss qualified for the national meet with a time of 9:02.17 last week at La Crosse.
Goss' time was good for sixth place in the heat which was outside the Top 4 for automatic qualification into the finals. Goss had to wait and see the times in the second heat to find out if he would qualify for the finals with one of the four fastest non-automatic qualifying marks.
When the dust settled, Goss had the 12th fastest time in the prelims which was good for the last qualifying time for the finals of the event. His mark of 9:07.92 was only 1.09 seconds in front of the runner in the No.13 spot.
Goss will compete in the finals of the 3K steeplechase on Friday, May 22 at 6:10 p.m.
