LA CROSSE, Wis. (10/19/24)---Concordia backed its outstanding performance two weeks ago at the Jamestown Jimmie Invite with another solid meet at the Wis.-La Crosse Jim Drew Invite.
Conditions were unexpectedly pleasant for the middle of October with the temperature in the high 60s and the sun beating down with no shade. The Cobbers, who have been practicing in 40-degree weather for the past two weeks, didn't let the mild conditions affect their performances as they showed grit and adapted to the conditions.
Brady Goss once again showed that he is the epitome of consistency. He led the Cobbers for the fourth consecutive meet. Goss posted a personal best time of 26:15, besting his old time by 2 seconds. With his new personal best time, he placed 35th out of 279 total runners.
With that finish, Goss ended his regular season by posting 35 finishes in all four meets this fall. He finished by beating 665 runners in all four meets combined, while only 85 competitors finished ahead of him.
Goss's time also represented a 69-second drop from last year's finishing time at the Jim Drews Invite.
Close behind Brady Goss was his brother Tyler Goss, who ran a season-best time of 26:26. That time earned him a 44th-place finish. It marked the fourth time this year that Tyler Goss has been the team's No.2 finisher.
The Cobbers' Top 5 were rounded out by the same crew of runners from the previous three meets. Carter Ferber, Brady Andrews and Lucas Hinojos were the Cobbers' three, four and five runners. They were all within 70 seconds of each other.
Ferber placed 117th with a time of 28:05. His finishing spot is 26 places higher than last year's meet.
Andrews placed 144th with a time of 28:31. Andrews dropped an outstanding 57 seconds and improved by 95 spots over last year's meet at La Crosse.
Hinojos placed 173rd with a season-best time of 29:11. Hinojos has been progressively dropping time all year and has dropped over 2 minutes from his first 8k of the season.
In the last 3k of the race, none of the top five lost more than seven places, with Hinojos passing 10 runners in that final stretch.
As a team, the Cobbers finished 14th out of the 20 teams at the meet. They also finished just behind four MIAC teams and ahead of one. The four teams ahead of the Cobbers were all within 88 points.
The Cobbers will have two weeks to prepare for the MIAC Championship Meet. They will travel back to St. Olaf on Saturday, November 2 and race at 12 p.m. The Cobbers participated in a meet at the St. Olaf course on September 21 and finished 12th out of 22 teams.
