A Pair Of Losses In Rare March Home Twinbill
Unaccustomed to playing at home in March, Concordia only came up with five hits in two games against Valley City State and lost 11-0, 8-0 on Friday. Both games were shortened due to the eight-run rule.

MOORHEAD, Minn. (3/23/12)—Unaccustomed to playing at home in March, Concordia only came up with five hits in two games against Valley City State and lost 11-0, 8-0 on Friday. Both games were shortened due to the eight-run rule.
The home opener on Friday was the earliest in school history and marked only the second time in program history that Concordia had played a home game in the month of March. The twinbill was also only the second time the Cobbers had played in the past 21 days since their spring break trip to Florida.
Valley City (9-6) seized control of the doubleheader in the very first two innings of the opener. The Vikings scored five times in the first frame and then added six more in the second to bolt to an 11-0 lead. That would be all the runs they would need as they earned the 11-0 win in a five-inning game.
Concordia (2-11) was held without a hit in the first game through the first two innings. Kelly Tasky led off the third inning with a single to record one of the five hits on the day for CC. She eventually advanced to second base which would be the farthest any CC player get in the two games. Kaia Sele and Kesley Jones recorded the other two hits for the Cobbers in game 1.
The second game started much like the first with Valley City putting up a crooked number in the first. The Vikings pushed across three runs in the opening frame and then added a pair in the third. They would finish off the scoring with three more in the top of the sixth and held on for the eight-run win in a game that ended after the bottom of the sixth.
The Cobbers had only two hits in the second game. Sele was 1-for-1 in the game and finished the day 2-for-3. Sophomore outfielder Kara Olmen had the only other CC hit. She had a single through the left side of the infield in the fifth inning.
Jones pitched the majority of the two games for Concordia. She relieved freshman MacKenzie Weatherly in the second inning of the first game and pitched the final 10.0 innings on the day.
Concordia will now open up MIAC play when they square off against St. Olaf in Northfield on Wed. Mar. 29 at 3:30 p.m.
