Late Innings Are Kind In Sweep At Macalester
The late innings were kind to the Cobbers as they scored a combined nine runs in the sixth and seventh innings in their 9-5, 4-2 sweep at Macalester on Saturday.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (4/27/13)—The late innings were kind to the Cobbers as they scored a combined nine runs in the sixth and seventh innings in their 9-5, 4-2 sweep at Macalester on Saturday.
Concordia scored five runs in the seventh inning to earn a 9-5 victory in the opener and then rallied from a 2-0 deficit to record four runs in the sixth inning in the finale to grab the 4-2 win. The Cobbers snap a five-game losing skid with the sweep and are now 3-5 in conference play and 6-14 overall. Macalester loses for the ninth straight game and drops to 3-11 in the MIAC and 11-21 overall.
The most dramatic win of the afternoon came in game 2. Concordia trailed 2-0 heading into the sixth inning and had only two hits before the game-changing sixth inning. The Cobbers scored four times in the sixth on four hits and had a pair of doubles. The biggest hit of the frame came off the bat of Kaia Nygord who had a two-out, two-run double.
Cobber sophomore pitcher Hilary Rotunda made sure the four runs would stand up for CC. She allowed two runs and five hits as she came up with the best performance of her career. It is the fewest runs she has allowed in a start and lowered her season ERA to 6.05.
Concordia outhit the Scots 6-5 in the second game. CC had six different players collect hits.
The story line was completely different in the opener as Concordia pounded out 13 hits and had five players with multiple-hit games. Kelly Tasky, Paige Beseman, Joelle Link, Kara Olmen and Mackenzie Jensen all had two hits in the game. Tasky, Olmen and Jensen also added two RBI each. Jensen and Beseman had the only extra-bases hit of the first game. Jensen laced a triple to right-center field in the five-run seventh inning while Beseman led off the third with a double to right center.
The Cobbers never trailed in the first game. CC went out to a 3-0 lead in the first frame and then led 4-2 in the fourth before scoring five in the seventh.
Becca Conant earned the win in the circle for the Cobbers. She pitched 7.0 innings, gave up 7 hits and allowed 5 runs while striking out 3. Conant now has a team-best four overall wins.
Concordia will host their home opener on Sunday, Apr. 28 when they square off against St. Olaf at 2 p.m.
