Rotunda's "A" Game Not Enough At Carleton

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (4/21/14)—Concordia junior pitcher Hillary Rotunda threw a three-hitter in Game 1 against Carleton but it wasn't enough as the Cobbers lost 3-0 and then dropped the second game 9-1 in five innings.

Rotunda had her "A" game in Northfield as she struck out seven in six innings and only allowed one earned run. The three hits allowed is a season low for Rotunda as she lowered her season ERA to 6.01. The three hits also tie a season low for opponents against Concordia.

The Cobbers are now 6-23 overall and 1-11 in conference play. Carleton wins for the fourth time in the last six games and improves to 9-22 in all games and 7-9 in the MIAC.

Rotunda allowed single runs in the first. Fourth and sixth innings as she kept Concordia close throughout the game. The Cobber offense was only able to record one hit in the opener. Junior shortstop Paige Beseman had a leadoff double to start the game and then CC was held to a pair of walks.

The second game was won in the first and third innings. The Knights were able to plate four runs in each of those innings and held Concordia off the board until the top of the fifth inning.

The Cobbers' lone run on the day came when Heather Jonasson reached second on an error. She then advanced to third on a ground out and eventually scored on Beseman's single.

Beseman had one of the three hits for Concordia in the nightcap. She went 1-for-3. Dominique Giesen had a single to third base in the second while Taylor Rasmussen had a pinch hit single in the fifth and Mackenzie Jensen came up with a single to lead off the third inning.

Beseman is now hitting a team-best .366 and has hit safely in four straight games. She also has at least one hit in 17 of the 24 games she has played this season.

Concordia will play their final road games of the year when they travel to St. Paul to take on St. Catherine on Wednesday, Apr. 23 at 3:30 p.m.
