Stranded On The Bases
Clutch hits were scarcer than snowballs in summer for Concordia as they stranded 20 runners in two games and lost 5-3 (10) and 4-2 to Valley City.

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/08/15)—Clutch hits were scarcer than snowballs in summer for Concordia as they hit .150 (3-for-20) with two outs and .151 (5-for-33) with runners on base and lost 5-3 (10) and 4-2 to Valley City State.
The Cobbers coaxed seven walks in each game but stranded 20 runners on base in the twinbill and lost for the sixth straight time. CC is now 8-11 on the season. Valley City State evens their overall record at 14-14.
Despite the hard-luck losses, Concordia received an ironman performance from senior pitcher Hillary Rotunda. Rotunda pitched all 17 innings on the day and struck out 11 batters.
Concordia rallied from a pair of one-run deficits in the first game and tied the game with Kellie Morehouse RBI double to right field in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Cobbers then got out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth inning before losing on a two-run homer in the tenth. Concordia did not have a hit in the three extra innings.
The Cobbers outhit the Vikings 10-9 in the opener. The biggest hit of the first game came from Ashley Tibbetts who cranked out her first home run of the season in the second inning. She went 1-for-4 in the game.
Madison Little was the only Concordia player with more than one hit in game 1. She went 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot and scored one of the team's three runs.
Little was responsible for one of the two hits in the second game. She singled to shortstop in the fifth inning and drove in the team's first run. Little would score in the bottom of the seventh inning on a wild pitch to bring the final score to 4-2.
Little, who had her five-game hitting streak come to an end on Wednesday, went 4-for-7 for the day and upped her team-leading batting average to .359. She has at least one hit in 14 of the team's last 17 games.
Freshman catcher Sadie Ness had the other hit for Concordia. She led off the fifth with a single to center field, advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored on Little's infield hit.
The Cobbers will now hit the road for four straight road series. Concordia will play at St. Benedict on Saturday, Apr. 11 and then at Hamline on Sunday, Apr. 12.
