A Perfect Start To The Florida Swing
The start to Concordia’s annual spring training trip to Florida couldn’t have gone much better as the Cobbers posted a pair of 5-inning wins over Rivier (N.H.) and Houghton (N.Y.). Concordia hammered out 19 hits, scored 23 runs and only allowed one run in the opening games in Florida. The Cobbers shut out Rivier 11-0 in the first game and then cruised past Houghton 12-1 in Game 1.
MELBOURNE, Fla. (3/03/25)---The start to Concordia's annual spring training trip to Florida couldn't have gone much better as the Cobbers posted a pair of 5-inning wins over Rivier (N.H.) and Houghton (N.Y.).
Concordia hammered out 19 hits, scored 23 runs and only allowed one run in the opening games in Florida. The Cobbers shut out Rivier 11-0 in the first game and then cruised past Houghton 12-1 in Game 1.
Concordia scored all its 23 runs on the day from multiple-run frames as they put together seven innings where they scored two or more runs.
The two wins bring Concordia's season record to the .500 mark. CC is now 3-3 on the year.
Game 1: Concordia 11, Rivier 0
The Cobbers jumped on the Raiders in the very first inning. CC scored three runs on two hits to take a 3-0 lead. Danielle Lyon came through with the big hit in the inning when she came up with a 2-run single that scored Lily Heskin and Kailee Falconer.
Concordia added two more runs in the second with Heskin and Falconer coming across the plate for the second straight inning.
The Cobbers closed out Game1 by scoring three runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings.
Charlotte Bertram picked the perfect time to come up with her first collegiate extra-base hit. She came on as a pinch hitter with the bases loaded in the fifth frame and proceeded to crush a pitch down the right field line which went all the way to the fence and gave Bertram a bases-clearing triple.
Concordia outhit Rivier 8-3 in the game. Lyon had the lone multiple-hit game for the Cobbers. She went 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Bayleigh Frye went the distance in the circle for CC. She scattered three hits and struck out four to record her second win of the season.
Game 2: Concordia 12, Houghton 1
It was more of the same in the second game as the Cobbers bolted from the starting gate, scored 10 runs in the first two innings and never looked back.
Concordia finished the game with 11 hits. Lyon once again led the offensive charge. She went 2-for-3 and drove in four runs. She also had two stolen bases.
Falconer and Heskin also had multiple-hit games for the Cobbers. Both players were 2-for-3 and scored two runs from the No.1 and No.2 spots in the batting order.
Brooklyn Hofer and Jocelyn Maki posted multiple-RBI games. Hofer was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI, while Maki went 1-for-2 with a pair of runs driven in.
First-year pitcher Kegen Coulson found her collegiate grove in the second outing of her Cobber career. She pitched all five innings, allowed six hits and struck out three in recording her first college victory.
Concordia will continue with its 2-game trend in Florida when they face Univ. of Dubuque and Misericordia on Tuesday, Mar. 4 at 1:30 and 3:45 p.m. (cst).
