ST. PETER, Minn. (4/7/26)---Concordia opened MIAC play by dropping a pair of games at Gustavus, playing in their first games since they returned from Florida on Mar. 7, the Cobbers fell 12-3 and 10-2 with both games ending in the sixth inning.
The two losses bring the Cobbers' record to 8-8 on the season, while the Gusties improve to 9-9.
The Concordia offense was led by junior infielder Jocelyn Maki, who hit a home run in the opener, posted RBI in both games and finished the day 3-for-5.
Reese Hauck also had hits in both games as she went 2-for-7 with a pair of RBI.
Game 1: Concordia 3, Gustavus 12
Concordia fell behind 2-0 in the first frame but then Maki lifted a solo home run to left field in the second inning to cut the Gusties' early lead to 2–1. The long ball was Maki's second of the season. She also went yard in Concordia's win over Concordia-Chicago. Maki finished with an RBI and reached base twice.
The Cobbers' continued to generate chances throughout the opener, drawing seven walks, but timely hits proved difficult to come by early.
Gustavus capitalized in the third inning, scoring five runs with help from walks and a series of RBI hits to extend the lead to 8–1. Concordia threatened in the third with the bases loaded but was unable to push across a run.
The Cobbers mounted their best rally in the sixth inning. After loading the bases, Hauck delivered a two-out, two-run single to left field, scoring Kailee Falconer and Olivia Olberding to close the gap to 8–3. Hauck led Concordia with two RBI, while Megan Guggisberg went 2-for-3 with a walk and scored a run.
The Gusties answered immediately with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach.
In the circle, Mallory Leitner took the loss, working 2.1 innings. Lauren Kohlgraf and Kegen Coulson provided relief, with Coulson tossing 2.2 innings and recording six fly-ball outs.
Concordia finished with six hits and left 10 runners on base.
Game 2: Concordia 2, Gustavus 10
The Cobbers turned the tables in Game 2 as they took the early lead but were unable to hold onto the margin and lost 10-2.
The Cobbers struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning. Hauck and Megan Guggisberg set the table before Maki delivered her second RBI of the day on a single through the right side to score Guggisberg. Moments later, Charlotte Bertram worked a bases-loaded walk to bring home Hauck and give Concordia an early 2–0 advantage.
Gustavus responded quickly in the home half of the third. They scored four runs, three of which came courtesy of a 3-run homer, and took a 4-2 lead. The Gusties continued to apply pressure in the fifth inning, breaking the game open with five runs on five hits.
Like the opener, Concordia collected six hits in the finale. CC was led by Maki, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Lily Heskin, Megan Guggisberg, Hauck, and Falconer each added a hit. The Cobbers showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks, but for the second straight game they left a double-digit total of runners on base.
Leitner got her second start of the day and went the distance in the circle. She worked 5.1 innings and struck out one while facing a tough Gustavus lineup.
